Evan Almighty

Evan Almighty is a 2007 comedy film, and sequel to the 2003 film Bruce Almighty. It was directed by Tom Shadyac and stars Steve Carell, and Lauren Graham, with Morgan Freeman reprising his role as God. Evan Almighty was released in cinemas on June 22, 2007. After jumping from Jim Carrey to Steve Carell as lead actor, production of the film began in January 2006. Several visual effect companies were used to provide CGI for the numerous animals and climactic flood scene at the end of the film.

Director Tom Shadyac focused on ensuring that the film made a positive environmental impact during filming and, along with Universal Pictures, stressed that the animals' conditions were acceptable despite PETA objections. Evan Almighty had its premiere on June 10, 2007. An immense budget made the film the most expensive comedy film produced at the time. The film earned $31.1 million in its opening weekend. Shortly after the film's release, a soundtrack debuted on July 3, 2007.

Newly elected to Congress, former local TV newsman Evan Baxter (Steve Carell) leaves Buffalo behind and shepherds his family to suburban northern Virginia. His congressional campaign declared that he would change the world, but he never stated how. Once he reaches his new home and job, strange things start to happen. Animals (all different kinds of animals) start following Evan around. He grows a beard that won't go away no matter how many times he shaves. Eight vacant lots in Evan's neighborhood are purchased in Evan's name. Tools used in Biblical times, and wood planks, are sent to his house. And the number 614 appears everywhere he goes. Evan soon learns that the number is a verse in the Bible. In the book of Genesis, 6:14 is the verse in which God instructs Noah to build the ark. Soon after, God (Morgan Freeman) appears and mysteriously commands him to build an ark because a flood is coming. His family comes to believe he is having an extraordinary mid-life crisis, but soon thinks he is truly onto something of Biblical proportions. God tells Evan the flood will come September 22 mid-day.

Animals start following Evan to Congress causing him to eventually be suspended by Congressman Long (John Goodman) from work after he tells everyone that God told him to build an ark. His wife Joan and his three sons leave for her mother's house after seeing it on a news report, leaving him to build the ark himself, which gains international notice. Weeks after Joan leaves Evan, God appears to her as a waiter at a diner. He tells her that God doesn't give things, he gives the opportunity to get things. For example, God doesn't give a family togetherness, he gives the opportunity for families to be together. Seeing his meaning, Joan returns to Evan to finish the ark together. Evan's old colleagues tell him that Congressman Long built a dam over a nearby lake and cut corners to save businesses money.

September 22 comes with clear skies, and Evan loads the hundreds of animals onto the newly finished ark in front of live news crews and nearby citizens. Minutes pass with clear skies, so spectators start jeering at him. Dark clouds appear and rain starts pouring down. Evan tells everyone to board the ark but no one listens. The rain suddenly stops and everyone starts laughing at Evan. Evan thinks it's over until the poorly built dam bursts. Panic overtakes everyone and they board the ark. The ark sails down the streets of Washington D.C. from the flooded water of the burst lake until it eventually lands touching the front of the Capitol. Evan tells Long that the flood was caused by his poorly made dam, which incites the other congressmen present to turn on Long. Evan and his family go on a hiking trip over the weekend and God reappears to Evan, telling him that the way to change the world is by doing one Act of Random Kindness ("ARK") at a time.

License to Wed

License to Wed (spelled Licence to Wed outside the United States) is a 2007 romantic comedy film starring Robin Williams, Mandy Moore, and John Krasinski and directed by Ken Kwapis. The film was released in theaters on July 3, 2007. Shot in Jamaica, Los Angeles, Mexico and Vancouver, B.C.

Sadie Jones (Mandy Moore) has always longed to marry the man of her dreams in her family church. Though she has found her lifetime companion in Ben Murphy (John Krasinski), Sadie is distressed to learn that St. Augustine's has only one wedding slot available over the next two years, though after re-checking their planning book, they find that the wedding can be held in three weeks. While Sadie and Ben do qualify for the slot, the church's eccentric minister, Reverend Frank (Robin Williams), will not wed the couple until they agree to attend his prenuptial course (shortened, due to the new date, from three months to three weeks). Now as their wedding date draws near, Sadie and Ben must attend every one of Reverend Frank's unusual classes and complete a series of homework assignments designed specifically to irritate one another — in order to get past puppy love and ensure that their union will have a sound foundation.

To Ben's dismay, Frank does not allow pre-marital sex. On behalf of Frank, his young assistant breaks into the couple's house and bugs it. Thus, Frank and his assistant can listen to all conversations, except that Frank does not let his assistant listen to adult parts. Ben discovers the microphone/transmitter, but does not tell Sadie, for fear that she will accuse him of lying and having acquired the bug device himself.

In one part of the course, the couple has to care for twin robot babies. They work on Ben's nerves and he destroys one. Bystanders think he is killing a real baby.

Shortly before the wedding, Sadie changes her mind, among other things because Ben has not prepared marriage vows as Frank instructed them to do. Sadie goes on holiday to the honeymoon destination. Ben and Frank travel there too, they reconcile, and Frank marries them there.

The Dukes of Hazzard

The Dukes of Hazzard is an American television series that originally aired on the CBS television network from 1979 to 1985. It was inspired by the 1975 film Moonrunners.

The TV series The Dukes of Hazzard followed the adventures of two good old boys, Bo and Luke Duke, living in an unincorporated area of the fictional Hazzard County, Georgia, racing around in their modified 1969 Dodge Charger, The General Lee, evading corrupt Boss Hogg and his inept county sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane. Bo and Luke had been sentenced to probation for illegal transportation of moonshine - Uncle Jesse usually made the run, but had fallen ill, and on the very occasion that Bo and Luke had taken his place, they were caught. Jesse made a plea bargain to stop brewing moonshine in return for the boys to escape jail and be put on probation. As a result, Bo and Luke were not allowed to carry firearms (instead they used compound bows) or leave Hazzard County (although the exact details and jurisdiction of their probation terms often varied from episode to episode; sometimes, for example, it was implied that they would be jailed for merely crossing the county line; Other occasions it was shown that they may leave Hazzard as long as they were back within a certain time limit).

Corrupt politician Boss Hogg, who either ran or had fingers in just about everything in Hazzard County (and whose exact powers, much like the terms of Duke boys' probation, often varied in different episodes) was forever angry with the Dukes, in particular Bo and Luke, for eternally foiling his crooked scams and was always looking for ways to get them out of the picture so his plots had a chance of succeeding. Many episodes revolved around Boss trying to engage in an illegal scheme with criminal associates. Some of these were get-rich-quick schemes, though many others affected the financial security of the Duke farm, which Boss had long wanted to acquire for nefarious reasons. Other times, Boss hired known criminals from out of town to do his dirty work for him, and often trying to frame Bo and Luke for various crimes such as bank robbery (thus, resulting in probation revocation and allowing Boss easily to acquire the Duke farm). It was up to Bo and Luke to uncover the schemes and foil the criminals.

Due to their fundamentally good natures, although Boss Hogg continually tried to frame them, the Dukes always wound up helping him out albeit begrudgingly. More than once Boss was targeted by former associates who were either seeking revenge or had turned against him after a scheme unraveled in any number of ways: Boss' greedy nature, Rosco's bumbling, the criminals simply outsmarting the two or their consciences came to the surface. Sometimes criminals who were even more crooked and ruthless than Boss came to town. Sheriff Rosco also found himself in trouble more than once. On such occasions, Bo and Luke usually had to rescue their adversaries as an inevitable precursor to defeating the bad guys; these instances became more regular as the series went on.

Transformers

Transformers is a 2007 live action film directed by Michael Bay and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, based on the Transformers franchise. The film stars Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky, who has the coordinates to the location of the All Spark, an object at the center of the war between the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons. It also stars Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Jon Voight and John Turturro, and it features the voices of Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime and Hugo Weaving as Megatron. Cullen voiced Prime in the 1980s cartoon.

Producers Don Murphy and Tom DeSanto developed the film, and Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman wrote the script, aiming for a realistic interpretation of the characters. Though not a Transformers fan, Bay was convinced by Spielberg to direct, and he created an intricate design aesthetic for the computer-generated robots. General Motors and the United States military lent their support during filming, to keep the budget under $150 million. Armed with an enormous marketing campaign including comics, toys and tie-in deals, Transformers opened in the United States on July 2, 2007, and broke the box office record for the highest-grossing opening week for a non-sequel. Critics praised the special effects, but criticized the characterization. A sequel is expected for release on June 26, 2009.

The film begins with Optimus Prime explaining Cybertron's destruction at the hands of Megatron, and his quest to obtain the All Spark. Megatron discovers the All Spark on Earth, but crash-lands in the Arctic Circle, becoming frozen in the ice. Captain Archibald Witwicky and his crew of explorers stumble upon Megatron's body in 1897. Megatron's navigational system is activated by Captain Witwicky, and Archibald's eye glasses are imprinted with the All Spark's coordinates. Sector 7, a secret United States government organization, discovers the All Spark and builds the Hoover Dam around it to mask the energy signal. The still-frozen Megatron is moved into this facility, and is reverse engineered to further advance human technology.

In the present day, the rest of the Decepticons—Blackout, Frenzy, Barricade, Starscream, Scorponok, Bonecrusher and Devastator—have landed on Earth and assumed the disguise of Earth vehicles (except Scorponok, who keeps his scorpion-like alien form). Blackout and Scorponok attack a U.S. military base in Qatar and try to hack into the military database to find where Megatron and the All Spark are, but fail when the network is manually shut down. While Blackout destroys the rest of the base, Scorponok chases a small group of survivors, but is eventually repelled. After their failure, Frenzy infiltrates Air Force One to hack again into the military database. He finds the map imprinted on Captain Witwicky's glasses, which his descendant Sam intends to sell on eBay for money. Frenzy and Barricade begin tracking Sam's location.

The Autonomous Robotic Organism (shortened to "Autobot") Bumblebee is also on Earth, disguised as a 1976 Chevrolet Camaro,[2] and looking for Sam. Sam buys Bumblebee, who then helps him try to woo his crush, Mikaela Banes; Sam does not know that Bumblebee is an alien until he sees Bumblebee transform and send a homing signal to the rest of the Autobots. While Sam flees from his autonomous car, Barricade confronts him and demands Archibald's spectacles. Bumblebee, who is following Sam, transforms and defeats Barricade. Mikaela, who is also following Sam, is caught in the crossfire, and leaves with Sam and Bumblebee to rendezvous with the rest of the Autobots. The Autobots—Optimus Prime, Jazz, Ironhide, and Ratchet—land on Earth and take on the forms of Earth vehicles. Sam, Mikaela, and the Autobots return to Sam's home to retrieve the glasses. Although the Autobots manage to get the glasses, agents from Sector 7 arrive and capture Sam, Mikaela and Bumblebee.

Frenzy, disguised as a cellphone, secretly accompanies the group to the Hoover Dam and releases Megatron from suspended animation. Locating the All Spark, he sends an alert to the other Decepticons. Megatron escapes and Sam convinces the Sector 7 agents to release Bumblebee so that he can get the All Spark to Optimus Prime. The Decepticons chase the Autobots, who now possess the All Spark, into Mission City. An ensuing battle results in casualties for both sides: Optimus kills Bonecrusher, Frenzy accidentally decapitates himself, Megatron kills Jazz, and both the Autobots and the military take down Devastator and Blackout. The battle ends with Sam ramming the All Spark into Megatron's chest, slaying him. Optimus takes a fragment of the All Spark from Megatron's corpse, but realizes that with it destroyed, Cybertron cannot be restored. He sends a signal to other surviving Autobots in the universe, directing them to Earth. Bumblebee decides to remain with Sam, while Sector 7 is closed. The dead Decepticons are dumped into the Laurentian Abyss, but the surviving Starscream escapes into space.

Mr. Brooks

Mr. Brooks is a thriller film directed by Bruce A. Evans and starring Kevin Costner and William Hurt. It was released on June 1, 2007.

Earl Brooks (Costner) is an upstanding business owner and family man, recently honored as the Portland Chamber of Commerce’s Man of the Year. In his secret life, Earl is a serial killer, hounded by his id, manifested as the gleefully sadistic alter ego Marshall (Hurt). While he has refrained from killing for the last two years, Brooks feels the urge rising once again and, spurred on by Marshall, murders a couple in their home. Despite inadvertently killing them while their curtains are open, Earl follows his meticulous modus operandi, destroying all clothing and cleaning up the crime scene before departing.

The next day Earl attends his weekly meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous, where he vaguely reveals his addiction without elaborating on the nature. Soon afterwards, Earl’s daughter Jane (Danielle Panabaker) returns home, having abruptly dropped out of Stanford. When pressed on her motives for abandoning college, Jane reveals that she’s pregnant, but Earl fears his daughter is hiding a much worse secret. Even more worrisome is the appearance of “Mr. Smith” (Dane Cook), a peeping tom who photographed Earl murdering the dancing couple. Fully aware of Earl's “Thumbprint Killer” alter ego, Smith demands to accompany Earl on his next murder, which Earl agrees to. As they troll for a victim, however, Smith becomes frustrated with Earl's meticulous preparations and nervous over Portland Detective Tracy Atwood (Demi Moore), chief investigator of the Thumbprint Killer case who hounds Smith at every turn, suspecting he's hiding something. Tracy herself is distracted by personal problems, including a messy divorce from her sleazy ex-husband (Jason Lewis) and an escaped serial killer (Matt Schulze) who abducts and nearly kills her before she escapes.

One day, Earl is shocked to find detectives outside his house, only to realize they are interested in speaking with his daughter, who left school following the murder of a student with a hatchet. Jane pleads innocence during questioning, but Earl realizes that his daughter may be guilty and afflicted with the same “addiction” he has. To deflect suspicion, he travels to her college campus in disguise and replicates the hatchet murder, making it appear the two murders are the work of a serial killer. At the same time, Earl and Marshall form a plan to address Mr. Smith's blackmail scheme, while researching Detective Atwood's background. Earl reevaluates his own life and decides that the best course of action for his family and friends is that he be murdered, a decision that infuriates Marshall. The plan involves taking Mr. Smith out on a promised thrill killing which would give Smith the confidence to kill Earl, to tie up loose ends. Meanwhile, Tracy gets a search warrant for Mr. Smith’s apartment, believing him to be the Thumbprint Killer, but finds it empty, containing only an invoice with the furniture's forwarding address. Upon investigating the address, she discovers it to be Meeks' hideout. In the ensuing gunfight, Tracy injures both Meeks and his girlfriend, who commit suicide rather than be arrested.

Earl and Smith infiltrate a high-rise apartment and murder another couple, revealed as Atwood's ex-husband and his divorce attorney. Smith, who urinates all over the floor out of nervousness, is now exhilarated by the killings, pulls a gun on Earl, who reveals his intention to die at Smith's hands and spare his family the shame of his eventual arrest. The two arrive at a cemetary, where Earl stands in front of an open grave and beckons Smith to shoot him. Smith squeezes the trigger, but the gun doesn't fire. Earl, who reveals that he disabled Smith's gun should he change his mind, reveals that he wants to live to see his grandchild. Earl murders Smith with a shovel and rolls him into the grave. With Smith’s urine providing the only DNA sample of the Thumbprint Killer, Earl is beyond suspicion. After the killings, Earl returns to his normal life, anonymously calling Atwood and telling her that the killings are over, before hanging up. Later that night, Earl goes upstairs to bed, stopping in his daughter's bedroom. As he kisses his sleeping daughter, her eyes shoot open, and she stabs him in the neck with a pair of scissors and watches him bleed to death. Earl wakes up, shuddering at the nightmare, and prays feverishly as the film ends.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry

I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (a.k.a. Chuck and Larry) is a 2007 comedy film directed by Dennis Dugan and starring Adam Sandler and Kevin James. The film was released on July 20, 2007 in the U.S., August 16, 2007 in Australia and on September 21, 2007 in the UK and Ireland.

Chuck Levine (Adam Sandler) and Larry Valentine (Kevin James) are veteran FDNY firefighters. Chuck is a womanizer and a self-described whore while Larry is a single father trying to raise a daughter and an effeminate son Eric (Cole Morgen). Because of Larry's sadness and obsession over his wife's death, he ends up not changing the primary beneficiary of his pension from his wife to his children within the deadline. His only option is to marry someone but Larry admits that there is no woman he knows that he would trust with his children's future.

While on a routine search of a burned building, Chuck is left hanging for his life. Larry catches Chuck and shields him from falling boards from the fragile floor above. They wake up in the hospital and Larry is struck by the reaction of his children being again in the hospital where their mother died. Larry decides to quit being a fireman because he’s afraid of dying and leaving his kids alone. While thinking it over, Larry finds an article about same-sex domestic partnership rights and decides to "marry" Chuck, making him the beneficiary and caretaker of Larry's children. Chuck is reluctant but gives in since Larry saved his life.

After registering their domestic partnership, a beneficiary office lawyer comes to talk to Chuck and Larry to verify their domestic partnership. Chuck and Larry put on an act and the lawyer quickly leaves, hinting that a surprise inspection may come in the future by a much more thorough person.

Chuck and Larry meet with their lawyer Alex McDonough (Jessica Biel). Alex tells the two that a specialist is indeed being sent in to see if Chuck and Larry are frauds; if they are faking being gay, they and anyone who knows about their lie will go to jail. She suggests they legitimize their relationship by truly getting married. Following her advice they elope and marry in Canada, since same-sex marriage in New York is not possible. Chuck then moves in with Larry.

After Chuck's first morning with Larry, Larry goes outside and finds Clinton Fitzer (Steve Buscemi), the specialist sent in to see if they’re faking being gay. He remarks that their trash is not very gay and leaves.

While shopping for more “gay stuff”, Chuck runs into Alex and she invites Chuck and Larry to a costume party that night. During the flamboyant party, the pair meet Alex's hyperactive gay brother, Kevin (Nick Swardson). After the party ends, the party-goers are confronted by an anti-gay rights group. The activists get into verbal arguments with the gays, culminating in activist leader Jim (Rob Corddry) calling them faggots. Chuck gets offended and punches Jim. The altercation makes its way to the newspaper tabloids the next day.

The next morning, Chuck and Larry are called to speak with FDNY Captain Phineas J. Tucker (Dan Aykroyd) who has seen through their scheme and warns them that if they get caught, they are not to bring the firehouse down with them. Chuck and Larry find themselves not accepted well by the other firemen. No one will play basketball, Larry has been asked not to coach Little League anymore, and Larry gets asked a lot of crude homosexual questions when he makes an appearance for his kids’ Career Day. While playing alone, Chuck is confronted by Fred Duncan (Ving Rhames), a newcomer quiet angry firefighter rumored to be an axe murderer. Chuck fears the worst but Duncan opens up to Chuck and admits that he acts mean because he has been in the closet for so long.

Chuck is getting to know Alex and spends time with her in a 'girl-girl' relationship exemplified by their friendship bracelets. She begs for him to rub and massage her feet which he was reluctant but decided to do so. One day, while Chuck is convinced to give love advice to Alex they end up passionately kissing. Alex backs out and apologizes for kissing a gay married man who's her client. Chuck claims he’s never felt this way about a woman before, but Alex tells him to leave.

While rescuing a man stuck in a chimney, Chuck and Larry get into an argument. Chuck tells Larry that because of the partnership, he can't get close to Alex and the whole situation would never have happened if Larry had put his dead wife behind him and found a nice woman to marry. To make matters worse, a petition has been signed by the firefighters to get Chuck and Larry to transfer from the station. Tucker refuses to remove Chuck and Larry, but instead moves them to different shifts so they can no longer work together. Larry confronts each of the signers and is disgusted by how people he saved, helped, and taught have betrayed him.

Back home, Larry sees Chuck nurturing Larry son's talent for tap dancing and musicals. Larry throws out his wife's clothing and apologizes to Chuck for everything.

Meanwhile, tabloids pick up on Chuck and Larry's case and their court case becomes a media spectacle. Inside the courthouse, Chuck and Larry confront the other firefighters who apologize and vow to stand with Chuck and Larry. During the court case, Chuck and Larry are grilled with personal questions. After testimony by Larry's children, the case looks to be firmly on Chuck and Larry's side. In a last ditch attempt, Clint asks the couple to kiss. After convincing by the audience, they attempt to kiss but are interrupted by Captain Tucker who admits that they are lying and his part in it but tells the judges that their lie has helped everyone around them and hurt no one. Clint convinces the judge that it doesn't matter since they still broke the law. In a Spartacus-inspired sequence, the firefighters all lie and claim that they helped Chuck and Larry break the law and should also be jailed.

Unfortunately, they are actually all thrown in jail. Councilman Banks (Richard Chamberlain) shows up and tells Chuck and Larry he'll drop all charges under two conditions: the firefighters have to admit that what they did was illegal, and the council will dismiss it as a misdemeanor, and they all have to make a gay calendar because Chuck and Larry are still heroes to the gay community (plus it would also act as an effective fundraiser for AIDS prevention).

Later, Duncan and Kevin get married at the same wedding chapel in Canada. At the reception, Larry is seen talking to a woman while Chuck goes over and talks to Alex. Chuck is uncertain if Alex has forgiven him so Alex shows him she still has the friendship bracelet they made tied around her ankle, and they end up dancing together.

Apocalypse Now

Apocalypse Now is a 1979 Academy Award and Golden Globe winning American film set during the Vietnam War. It tells the story of Army Captain Benjamin L. Willard who is sent into the jungle to assassinate United States Army Special Forces Colonel Walter E. Kurtz, who is said to have gone insane. The film has been viewed as a journey into the darkness of the human psyche.

The film was directed by Francis Ford Coppola from a script by Coppola, John Milius and Michael Herr, and was in large part based on Joseph Conrad's novella Heart of Darkness (1899), as well as drawing elements from Herr's "Dispatches" (1977).

The film stars Martin Sheen as Captain Benjamin L. Willard (based on Marlow in Conrad's novella), Marlon Brando as Colonel Kurtz, Dennis Hopper as a photojournalist, and Robert Duvall in an Oscar-nominated turn as the wild Lt. Colonel Bill Kilgore. The movie became notorious in the entertainment press due to its lengthy and troubled production. In the end, Coppola had to finance the film with his own money.

The movie begins with Willard at his bed, voice over narrating about his experience and why he chose to return to Vietnam after going home, how he has been there for a week. Two soldiers knock at his door, they come to escort him to Com Sec Intelligence. They forcefully give him a cold shower because he is drunk and unwilling to move himself. They take him to Com Sec Intelligence where he is ordered to go upriver into Cambodia, Listens to some audio recordings of Kurtz, and is told that Kurtz is wanted dead for unsound strategy and for murdering South Vietnamese Intelligence officers.

He meets with the patrol boat crew that is supposed to take him to his destination and they leave.

The PBR arrives at a Landing Zone (LZ) where Willard and the crew meet up with Lt. Colonel William Kilgore, the eccentric commander of the "First of the Ninth", 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry (Aerial Reconnaissance), following a massive and hectic mopping-up operation of a conquered enemy town.

Coppola cameos with a media news crew landing with the troops. He exhorts Willard to keep moving and not to look at the camera, as if on the set of a real film. The scene highlights the blurring of the 'war experience', the surreal nature of Vietnam for many of its American participants and of course the deep involvement of the media and entertainment industry in the war. This last theme runs right through Apocalypse Now culminating in Hopper's 'crazed' photojournalist character at Kurtz's lair.

Kilgore, an avid surfer, learns from one of his men that the beach which marks the opening to the Nung River is perfect for surfing, and thus orders his men to capture the village and the beach. The beginning of the attack is what may be the film's most famous scene, featuring Ride of the Valkyries. Diegetic sound techniques are most notable when Richard Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries is blasting out from loudspeakers on the helicopter as a psychological warfare technique as the air cavalry approaches the unsuspecting Vietnamese village. At this point the film starts to elucidate moral questions and contrasts the peace of the village with the brash and hi-tech U.S assault. Children are seen ushered to safety from a school yard with the distant helicopters in the background. Later a Vietnamese woman destroys a landed helicopter in the yard using a hidden grenade. This enrages Kilgore, whose helicopter is shown gunning down the escaping woman with Kilgore exclaiming "fucking savages!".

The village invasion ends with the soldiers surfing the barely claimed beach amidst sporadic mortar round bursts from the VC. After helicopters swoop over the village and demolish all visible signs of resistance, a giant napalm strike in the nearby jungle dramatically marks the climax of the battle.
